Supporter, over 8,000 of you have taken part in the Fix the funding campaign – thank you! Together, we are building support for a review of the NHS continuing healthcare funding (CHC) process for people affected by dementia. CHC is a vital source of funding for people with long-term, complex health needs, helping cover the cost of care. But too many families affected by dementia are missing out because of a flawed application process that doesn’t recognise their unique needs. Because of you, an incredible 96% of MPs across England have now been contacted about the campaign and many are starting to show their support. Last month, we hosted an event for MPs in Parliament alongside people who have been through the CHC process. As a direct result of the invitations you sent, we welcomed dozens of MPs and their staff to hear more about the urgent need to review the CHC process.
“Families are physically and emotionally exhausted and drained due to providing care. They should not have to navigate their way through such a stressful and tortuous process.”
Unfortunately, Helen Whately MP, Minister for Social Care, who is responsible for both dementia and the CHC process could not attend the event. Disappointingly, in response to letters and parliamentary questions sent to her by MPs supporting the Fix the funding campaign, the Minister has stated that there are no plans to review CHC.Even though she couldn’t make the event, can you make sure that the Minister hears what Annette had to say by sharing our blog with her on Twitter/X? If you don’t use Twitter/X, you can also contact her on Facebook. And if you’re not sure what to write, here is a message you can copy and paste: ‘I’m joining 8,000 others to ask for an urgent review of CHC funding for people with dementia. @HelenWhatelyMP, you said you have “no plans to review CHC” – will you reconsider? Read what @DementiaUK supporter Annette told MPs at a #FixTheFunding event.⬇️’ We still have further to go, but thanks to supporters like you, support for the Fix the funding campaign will continue to go from strength to strength. With an election due this year, your voice is more powerful than ever. Thanks again for your support! Beth and Tommy Campaigns Team
